Really, Are you healthy?

The world is coming to an end! We are sure you have been bombarded with these red letters every now and then by all possible visual mediums that exist. Let’s assume it is, why not die healthy then?
On a serious note don't you wanna get rid of those dark circles, a fat belly, knee cramps and annoying zits? Let me warn you this isn't a miraculous one-read body shape-altering article but you woud slowly reach there. What’s the harm in looking sexy, feeling healthy and thinking positively all the time? None, right? So, let's try and follow these 10 commandments:

1. Switch of the TV: Whether it’s 9 pm or 10 pm, whatever that works for you! Keep a deadline. Your television should go on a snooze mode. Read a book, play some meditative, jazz or classical music or grab a book. Just don’t let that TV disturb your blissful hours.
Hint: Try playing the sound of flute on your I-pod. Blissful!

2. Detox Darling: We know, we know you’ve heard this umpteen times. But it really, really does work. I tried it for myself. Just for two days from your otherwise caffeinated, sugary, chees-y life, live on fruits and veggies minus the salt and sugar. Your body will thank you for it. And the kilos lost; well ladies, do I need to say more?

3. Silence: Maddening traffic, boardroom chaos, cranky kids, neighbours…. beep beep beep. Don't fuss about meditation and the works. Just pure, simple silence ten minutes a day for a healthy mind.

4. Make nuts your friends: Almond, walnut, kishmish – pick them all. Popping a handful daily has been shown to lower heart disease risk by 35 percent. Just don’t overdo it.

5. Travel: Travelling not just opens up your mind but de-stresses your body too. Lifestyle expert Nidhi Goyal says, “Once in a while you should backpack and just let lose. It could be any destination of your choice. Trekking, rappelling or just sitting next to a river works as a spa for your soul.”

6. Carry a diary: Half of our worries intensify when we forget. You don’t need to be a computer wiz or a genius to remember everything - from your partner’s best friend’s anniversary to your kids’ favourite brand of chocolate at the groceries. Jotting things down makes it far more easier to remember and leaves your mind relaxed.

7. Water: Let’s accept it and just make it a habit. Even if it’s six glasses that you can manage, go for it. But do go for it. You will reach eight soon.

8. Floss and swish: The aisles at the groceries are filled with flosses and mouthwash. Go pick one today! Dr Ather Wani warns, “Formation of plaque and calculus leads to gum disease and can then proceed to periodontitis (inflammation of the structures surrounding the teeth -ligaments and bone). Periodontitis may affect the onset or progression of coronary heart disease.” Mouthwash is equally important. If you are stinking, you might lose a lot of friends and your mind too.

9. Walk: If you aren’t the sorts who like to spend hours at the gym or have two left feet, don’t force your body into it. When there were no machines, no salsa to jive to, no heart-pumping aerobics to book into, homo sapiens relied on walking. Pure, pleasurable walk to soothe your mind and exercise your body.

10: Don’t fret: Let's look at the age-old saying once again, ‘Don’t frown, someone might be falling in love with your smile.’ Fretting, fuming, frowning will add wrinkles to your face, pollute your mind, will make you look ugly and turn you into a negative b***. In short, smile J!
