At the mall the other day, heard a shopper complimenting another on the chambray. CHAMBRAY??? Well, if you are on my side of the boat, it's a light cotton shirt in blue. More like your denim blue look-a-like shirt, that's hardly a trend in India, but is big in Australia. It's pronounced - "sham-bray" and looks like this.
Since my ass is still in India, I could just google 'chambray'... :P
ReplyDeleteCambric or chambray is a lightweight plain weave cotton cloth used as fabric for lace and needlework. Cambric is also known as batiste in a large part of the world.... (and....)
In the United States, a sturdy (Yo!) form of cotton chambray is used for a common workman's shirt, whence the term "blue collar" comes (General Knowledge huh..). The fabric is woven with a white weft and colored warp, usually light indigo blue, and the shirt is assembled with white top-stitching. This shirt, along with dark indigo blue denim jeans frequently was, and sometimes still is, the uniform of prisoners (Oh my GOD...) and thus referred to as "prison blues"....(I personally like prison blue... :P)
I like this Blog :))
Mr/Ms S: Given the fact that anybody and everybody can google everything that exists (and sometimes that does not exist too)on the planet, I didn't copy-paste it like you did. This was just to simplify the word and give it a colloquial meaning. I love that you like the blog. Would be good if you don't hide in 'S' and reveal your identity.
